Pattern Drafting for Knits with

What to expect.... 

This class will teach you how to draft a basic bodice and bottom for knit or stretchy textiles. You will also learn the difference between drafting knits and wovens along with many tips for construction. We will evaluate the different knits available and which knit textile should be paired with each pattern. Classroom machines are available to all students, but they are also welcome to bring their own machine if they are more comfortable.


  1. Muslin; 4 yards
  2. Thread; use a color that will contrast your textile
  3. Tape measure
  4. Clear plastic 18”x2” ruler with 16th” increments
  5. Hip curve ruler
  6. French curve ruler
  7. Scissors (paper and textile)
  8. Disappearing marking pen, chalk pencil and pencil
  9. Drafting paper
  10. Tracing wheel and tracing paper
  11. Knit textile for fitting a sample (not the final textile)
  12. Stretch/ballpoint needles for sewing machine
  13. Sewing machine if you prefer to use your own
